YOUR ARRIVAL IN PORTUGAL

Pre-Conference Attendees:

Participants joining us for either of our Pre-Conference programs will book their air travel to arrive into Lisbon’s Humberto Delgado International Airport (LIS) on Friday, June 2

Covid entry requirements: As of February 2023, passengers entering Portugal (with the exception of those arriving on flights from China) are no longer required to present proof of a negative test, a COVID-EU digital certificate, or vaccination or recovery certificates issued by other countries. More info is here:

https://www.ana.pt/en/lis/passenger-guide/what-you-need-to-know/covid-19.

We recommend taking a taxi or Uber from the airport to your hotel. Taxis are regularly available outside the arrivals terminals. Be sure that the meter is turned on at the start of your ride. The drive to the Pessoa Hotel takes approximately 20 minutes.

You’ll be able to drop off your luggage at your hotel (most hotels have a mid-afternoon check-in time) and have a free afternoon to rest or explore Lisbon. The first event of our Pre-Conference will be dinner that evening (exact details of our meeting time and location will be provided in your Welcome Packet, which will be emailed closer to conference time).

Main Conference Attendees:

We highly encourage participation in our Pre-Conference, both for the experience and to travel together as a group into Tomar. However, if you are unable to do this, we strongly suggest arriving into Lisbon’s Humberto Delgado International Airport (LIS) by Saturday, June 3 and making your own way to Tomar. You’ll need to book your own accommodations for the night of the 3rd in either Lisbon or Tomar.

Covid entry requirements: As of February 2023, passengers entering Portugal (with the exception of those arriving on flights from China) are no longer required to present proof of a negative test, a COVID-EU digital certificate, or vaccination or recovery certificates issued by other countries. More info is here:

An inexpensive and direct train runs from Lisbon’s Oriente Station (Estação do Oriente) to Tomar. The red line Metro gets you from the airport (which is its terminus) to Oriente, Lisbon’s main train station, in 5-10 minutes; tickets are around $2 US. The ride to Tomar is between 90 minutes and 2 hours 15 minutes (depending on the train). Trains run approximately every 2-3 hours; tickets are $10-20 US one-way. Train schedules and ticket purchase may be found at cp.pt/passageiros/en or rome2rio.com/map/Lisbon-Airport-LIS/Tomar

The Hotel dos Templarios, where all conference participants will be staying, is a 15 minute walk, or five minute taxi or Uber, from the Tomar train station (Estação Ferroviária de Tomar).

Alternatively, you may take a taxi from the Lisbon Airport for the 1 hour 15 minute drive. Fares are approximately $80-$100 US. More info on transport options from the Lisbon airport is here: https://www.aeroportolisboa.pt/en/lis/access-parking/getting-to-and-from-the-airport/public-transportation.

You’ll be able to leave your luggage at reception before the hotel’s 3pm check-in. The first event of our Main Conference will be lunch at the Hotel dos Templarios, followed by afternoon plenary and workshop sessions.

Returning Home or Continuing On:

Our Main Conference will conclude around 10am on Thursday, June 8.

For those of us returning home at this point, a coach will take participants from Tomar back to Lisbon’s Humberto Delgado International Airport (LIS) for flights departing at 4pm or later.

Post Conference Journey participants will depart Tomar after the closing circle of our Main Conference. Please see our Post Conference Itinerary (link to Post Conference Itinerary) for schedule details.

Post Conference Attendees:

Participants whose travels begin with our Post Conference should make their own way to Tomar by June 7. You’ll want to book accommodations in Tomar for the night of the 7th and be prepared to meet our group at Hotel dos Templarios by 9:30am on the morning of Thursday, June 8.

For travel directions between Lisbon’s Humberto Delgado International Airport (LIS) and Tomar, please see our Main Conference Arrival Info above.

Covid entry requirements: As of February 2023, passengers entering Spain (with the exception of those arriving on flights from China) are no longer required to present proof of a negative test, a COVID-EU digital certificate, or vaccination or recovery certificates issued by other countries. Our Post Conference Galicia trip concludes after breakfast on either Tuesday, June 13 (for participants in the 5 night program) or Wednesday, June 14 (for participants in the 6 night program with the optional extension to Finisterra).

Participants in the five night program will be able to take a taxi or Uber from our hotel in Santiago to the Santiago-Rosalía de Castro Airport (SCQ), some 10 miles out of Santiago and an approximately 15-20 minute drive, pending traffic.

Participants in the six night program will have coach transport for the approximately 90 minute drive to the Santiago-Rosalía de Castro Airport (SCQ) in time for flights departing after 2pm.
